In Which The Diet Works, and I Get Some Retail Therapy

So far, the diet I've been on has had good results. I lost 6 pounds. Go me.

I splurged on books yesterday: I bought 2. I've been trying really hard not to purchase a lot in the past two years. I download a lot to my e-reader from the library, or borrow, and try not to buy more than one at a time. I've only broken this good habit once recently - earlier this month, when my boss gave $50 is "Get Well Soon" gift cards and I bought 3 books on writing.  I used to do some major damage every time I walked into B&N, it was practically a tithe, since they got about 10% of my income. Anyhow, I did my best to put aside my destructive behavior - because 1, I ended up buying a lot that it would take me months, even years, to get around to reading, and 2. I was going broke.

That said, in order to get over my "whaaaaa! I wanted to go!" about my decision on registering for the conference, I indulged and bought two that called out to me.  I'm mostly done with the first. I'm saving the second.

In the meantime I've got 8 books downloaded to my e-reader that are going to expire in 10 days, so I need to get moving on those. The major flaw with downloading form the library is that all my holds seem to come in at the same time, no matter how far back I am on the waiting list.

But that's a small thing. I read fast enough that I can make it work.
